Highlights:

Desert Mountain opened the season with Highland H.S. on Wednesday afternoon.  About 25 scouts showed up to see Highland’s ace James Pazos.  The Wolves did a good job of battling the left hander knocking him out in the fourth inning.  In a game that went back and forth all day ended with Desert Mountain losing 8-7 in 8 innings. 

Desert Mountain had the game tied in the bottom of the 7th, and had the bases loaded, when Tyler Pretzlaff hit a line drive up the middle that Highland shortstop Jaime Garrido dove and caught to send the game into extra innings.  After giving up two runs in the top of the 8^th, the Wolves battled back on a RBI double by Hunter Thompson, and had the tying run on second when Cam Teich hit a line drive to left center field, but Highland left fielder Tanner Johnson made a great running catch to end the game.

Highlights:

In the second game of the Scottsdale QB club tournament at Desert Mountain on Friday, Desert Mountain jumped out to an early 5-0 lead but ended up giving up a 10 run inning and lost to Desert Ridge 5-16.  Cam Teich threw well for the Wolves going 4 innings, allowing two earned runs, and three hits.  The Wolves poor defense and some good Jaguar hitting put a close game out of reach in the sixth inning.  Offensively the Wolves were led by Michael Janikis who was 2 for 3 with two doubles, and Taylor Lindsey had a two RBI single.

Highlights:

The Wolves got down early on two Saguaro homeruns, but bounced back with vengeance putting 11 runs on the board in the 3^rd inning to cruise to a 14-7 victory at home on Monday.   Kyle Tokasey earned the victory in relief pitching two scoreless innings, and Ross Prejean also threw a scoreless inning.  Offensively, Taylor Lindsey was 2 for 3 with a triple and 3 RBI’s, Michael Janikis was 2 for 2, Adam Sonabend was 3 for 3 with a homerun and 3 RBI’s, Matt Petello was 2 for 3 with 2 doubles, Lance Harper was 2 for 3 with a double and two RBI’s, and Jeremy McNeely was 1 for 2 with two walks.

Highlights:

Desert Mountain started the game with seven straight hits and put five runs on the board but had to hang on to beat Mesa 11-9 on Wednesday at Mesa..  Matt Petello was 3 for 5 with 3 doubles, Lance Harper was 2 for 4 with a double and 3 runs scored, Michael Janikis was 2 for 3, and Cam Teich was 2 for 4 with a double and 3 RBI’s.  Ross Prejean pitched two innings, allowing 1 unearned run in relief, and Cam Teich pitched the 7^th to earn the save.

Chandler scored 3 in the first and never looked back as they beat Desert Mountain 6-2 on Friday at Chandler.  Taylor Lindsey had a two run single for the Wolves.

Highlights:

Desert Mountain hosted Horizon on Saturday, and the Huskies withstood a late Wolves rally to win 8-5.  Kyle Tokasey and Ross Prejean both pitched scoreless innings in the 6^th and 7^th to give Desert Mountain a chance.  The Wolves put four runs on the board, but came up a little short.  Tyler Pretzlaff was 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored, and Jeremy McNeely was 2 for 3 with a double.  Nick Malinasky was solid in the field at 3^rd base making several good plays.

Desert Mountain opened up non-region play on Tuesday at home vs. Cesar Chavez.  The Wolves turned a close game into a route scoring 10 runs in the fifth inning to post a 15-5 run rule victory.  Kyle Tokasey pitched one scorelss inning to earn the win.   Cam Teich led the way going 4 for 4 with 2 doubles, Michael Janikis was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI’s, Taylor Lindsey hit a 3 run HR, and Lance Harper had a two run homerun.

The Wolves traveled to Westview on Wednesday and came away with a 10-6 victory.  Taylor Lindsey led the way with two homeruns and six RBI’s, Lance Harper was 2 for 3, Nick Malinasky was 1 for 2 with a double and two stolen bases, and Matt Petello had a two run homerun. Jamie Young pitched 5 solid innings to earn the victory and Ross Prejean had two solid innings of relief.

Highlights:

Desert Mountain hosted a tough Pinnacle team at home on Friday.  Pinnacle jumped up early 6-1 but the Wolves battled back and came away with a 12-6 victory.  Cam Teich got stronger as the game went on and came away with the victory while Brian Foster pitched two scoreless innings to earn the save.  Taylor Lindsey remained hot with a 3 for 4 performance, which included two homeruns, a double and five RBI’s.  Adam Sonabend was 3 for 4 with a double, Michael Janikis was 2 for 4, and Lance Harper was 2 for 4 with two RBI’s.

Highlights:

In the first game of the East Valley/Fiesta Tournament Desert Mountain took down Red Mountain 9-5.  The Wolves were led by Brian Foster who went five strong innings to earn the win.  Offensively Tyler Pretzlaff was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI’s, Taylor Lindsey was 2 for 4 with a HR and a double, and Adam Sonabend was 2 for 4 with a HR.

In a short 3 ½ hour pitchers duel, Desert Vista took advantage of some poor Desert Mountain Defense to score 10 unearned runs in the 7^th inning and win 23-17.   The Wolves were led by Taylor Lindsey who went 5 for 5 with an homerun, triple and five RBI’s, Cam Teich was 3 for 5 with a homerun, Michael Janikis was 2 for 4 with a homerun, Tyler Pretzlaff was 2 for 5, Matt Petello was 2 for 4 with a double, and Lance Harper was 1 for 2 with a homerun.

Desert Mountain fell to Chandler on Thursday 7-5 in the final game of the tournament.  The Wolves battled but hit into two double plays in the 6^th and 7^th innings to thwart their comeback attempt.  Matt Petello was 2 for 3, Michael Janikis was 2 for 4 with a double, Lance Harper was 2 for 4, and Jeremy McNeely had a two run double.  Carson Edmunds pitched two innings allowing 1 unearned run and no hits, while Brian Foster pitched a scorless 7^th inning.

Highlights:

Another game vs. Desert Vista, another shootout.  Desert Vista jumped up early with 3 in the first, while DM answered with 3 in the 3^rd.  DV got seven runs in the 4^th, DM answered with 6 in the bottom of the 4^th.  In the 7^th DV had a 20-11 lead when the Wolves refused to go down without a battle.  In the bottom of the 7^th DM had five runs scored and had runners on 2^nd and 3^rd when the umpires decided that it was too dark to play and walked off the field.  Not the way anyone wanted to see this game end.  Both teams battled all day, and unfortunately the game ended because of darkness with DV up 20-16.  Desert Mountain was led by Taylor Lindsey who was 5 for 5 with 2 homeruns, three doubles, and 7 RBI’s.  Adam Sonabend was 3 for 5 with a homerun, two doubles, and 5 RBI’s, Tyler Pretzlaff was 2 for 4, scoring 4 runs, Cam Teich was 3 for 4 with a homerun, double and 3 RBI’s, Lance Harper was 2 for 5, and Hunter Thompson was 3 for 5.
